Government to serve all BECE candidates meals

Ghana’s President, Nana Akufo-Addo Dankwa says preparations are underway to provide meals for final year Junior High School (JHS) students, who will be taking their Basic Education Certification Examination (BECE).

The president noted that he has directed the Minister for Gender, Children and Social protection, Ms Cynthia Morrison, to ensure the BECE candidates are served ‘one hot meal’ a day, from 24th August to 18th September.

Akufo-Addo made this known in a nationwide televised address today, August 16.

The president said the directive was to ensure full compliance of the COVID-19 protocols, as the students write their final exams.

“As a result of reports I have recently received that some final year JHS students were going hungry, in complying with COVID-19 protocols, I have just instructed the Minister for Gender, Children and Social protection, to begin preparation to ensure that, as from 24th August to 18th September,  five hundred and eighty-four thousand (584,000) final year JHS students and , one hundred and forty six thousand (146,000) staff, both in public and private schools, be given one hot meal a day, this is to ensure full observance of the COVID-19 protocols”
