Additionally, comedienne Jacinta adds that women need a lot of confidence to break through because comedy is controlled by men in this place.

The gifted Jacinta claims that the lack of confidence among the nation's female comedians is the reason why there aren't many of them.

Being a comedian is perceived negatively since it is widely believed that comedy is only for men and that women are not made out for it. It wasn't easy for me to begin my job, and I continue to receive remarks asking why such a pretty girl would choose to be a "fool."

"I had an intense love for humor and didn't give a damn about what people thought." I had to gain confidence in order to break through, and now I'm proud of the person I've become. I never let anything that someone said to depress me.

"If you are focused on something, you don't have to listen to negative comments," she stated in an interview with Graphic Showbiz.

But, Jacinta, who starred in her own shows One Night Stand the previous year and Woman On Top in October of this year, adding that female comedians may elevate their game by beginning with smaller gigs and progressing to larger ones as their confidence grows.

“I have featured a few females on my show a couple of times and what I realised is that they lacked self-confidence. Maybe, the stage was too much for them but they can start from the pubs, weddings and then move unto the main stage with time.

"You can even make a joke that isn't very funny into one that will have people laughing out loud." The people will be fooled by the audacity with which you choose to tell your joke, she revealed.

She also revealed that doing a lot of research is necessary if one wants to be successful as a comedian. "Staying on top of your game requires researching contemporary issues and coming up with fresh jokes that will consistently leave your audience in awe. Repeating jokes is not the greatest approach. Light entertainment is difficult, particularly if you want to succeed, the woman remarked.

Jacinta Asi Ocansey was the birth name of the Pentecost University College alumna who starred in Yvonne Nelson's films Heels and Sneakers and Selfie.
