E-Levy Yentua  Demonstration  To Hit Government on Thursday
The Youth Wing of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), has called on Ghanaians to join the scores of supporters and members of the NDC organise a massive demonstration dubbed ‘Yentua” on Thursday, February 10, 2022, to put pressure on the government to rescind its ‘desperate’ efforts on the electronic transaction levy (e-levy).
According to the NDC, the safety of those who will join the supporters and members of the party to organize the street was guaranteed since the police administration was notified and it was ready to deploy the police officers to provide security for the teeming protestors.
The demonstration is expected to start at 7:00 am at Obra Spot, Kwame Nkrumah Circle.
A letter signed by the National Youth Organiser of the NDC, Mr George Opare Addo, explained that there is an urgent need for them to protest the tax policy, saying “the young people of this country are frustrated and tired of the happenings in the country.”
The NDC wanted the government to “rescind its desperate efforts on the Electronic [Transactions] Levy, end widespread corruption, redeem young people from mass unemployment, pay outstanding arrears to workers and end the UTAG endless strike immediately.”
In a letter addressed to the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr George Akuffo Dampare, the party stated that they will send a petition to the president of the Republic of Ghana Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo at the Jubilee House and the Right Hon Speaker Alban S.K Bagbin at the Parliament House.
