Consciously play and promote GH music- Gyankroma Akufo-Addo to DJs

Speaking earlier yesterday  during a stakeholder engagement, she voiced concerns about the diminishing trend of Ghanaian music being played on the radio in order to get feedback from creatives and important figures in the creative business for the promotion of the #playghana initiative.

In the proposal, the executive secretary emphasized how important it is for influential members of the music industry to band together in order to continuously feature local music on radio stations and in nightclubs, thereby turning it into a worldwide sensation.

She claimed that this deliberate effort will support the promotion of local music during the December festivities in Ghana and would even result in legislation mandating the transmission of local content.

"We are requesting that Ghanaian music be played first on all radio stations, DJs, nightclub operators, and promoters. It is therefore not merely a project that will be promoted at Christmastime. We intend to start this around Christmas in an effort to influence and modify the local content law."

She also emphasized that the Play Ghana program is a long-term commitment to promoting Ghanaian music rather than a seasonal gimmick.

She pleaded with the business to see it as an ongoing endeavor to raise the profile and level of appreciation of regional performers.

"We want to play music from Ghana continuously. It is neither going to be a gimmick nor something that is merely static. We plan to perform Ghanaian music here for eternity," she said.

In order to guarantee that the Play Ghana Songs program is effectively enforced, Ms. Akufo-Addo disclosed that her organization was actively working on changes to the local content law.

She believes that this action will have a long-lasting effect on the music industry and provide a stable platform for the success of local musicians.
