Cerebral Meningitis: Upper West cases rise to 315 with 45 Deaths

The number of cerebrospinal meningitis (CSM) cases recorded in the Upper West Region have increased from 273 to 315.

The death toll of the disease have also increased from 43 to 45.

This was disclosed by the Deputy Health Minister Dr. Bernard Okoe Boye on JoyNews’ ‘Beyond the Lockdown’ on Sunday.

The minister added that, currently, there are only five active CSM cases and four are in stable condition.

He debunked claims that the CSM outbreak in the northern parts of the country has been ignored due to the attention on Covid-19 pandemic.

Rather, he asserted that the CSM string being currently dealt with is also novel (new), hence the challenges being faced.

“The type we were dealing with is not known to cause outbreaks,” he said.
