Biden visit shows Putin that Nato is in it for the long run - analyst

The primary lesson learned from Biden's discussion, according to Dr. Patrick Bury, a former NATO analyst and current defence and security expert at the University of Bath, is that NATO partners are "in this for the long haul."

"They are signaling to Vladimir Putin that basically we are in this and are not going to back down," he said in a statement to BBC News. "Therefore, you are going to have to question your fundamental assumptions about trying to outlast us in this war."

Bury also mentioned that Biden paid a surpise visit today rather than on the 24th of February, the anniversary.

According to him, they probably didn't want to send the president on the anniversary since there was a higher chance that Russia would launch an attack that day.

"These visits require extensive security planning, of course, and it was undoubtedly discussed or perhaps brought up earlier when Zelensky visited the US back in December," says the author.
