A COMMUNICATIONS team member of the opposition National Democratic Congress in Akatsi South Constituency of the Volta Region, Mr. Japhet Festus Gbede, stated that available data corroborated with his own analysis indicate that it is highly probable that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) would face significant challenges in achieving 30% of the total votes cast if they choose to present the Vice President, Dr. MAhamadu Bawumia as their presidential candidate for the 2024 General elections.
According to him, this assertion is based on various factors and considerations, including historical voting patterns, shifting political dynamics, and the strengths and weaknesses of Dr. Bawumia as a candidate after listening to his comedy today at the Akatsico dining hall.
While Dr. Bawumia may be a competent individual with a strong background in economics in the minds of some individuals within the NPP, his leadership skills and political experience are questionable.
Furthermore, he pointed out that the NPP needs to focus on building a strong and united party, rather than relying on an individual to carry them to victory.
"If the NPP wants to be taken seriously as a contender for power in the 2024 elections, they need to choose a candidate who has a proven track record of leadership and political experience, not a comedian moving around attacking and using President Mahama as his campaign message,' Mr Gbede noted.
