The Technical Coordinator for the Ghana AIDS Commission in the Bono, Bono East and Ahafo region, Mr Ahmed Ibrahim Bambila has said the three regions is on top of the 2019/2021 HIV/AIDS survey.

Explaining details of the methodologies used in the survey, the BABE HIV/AIDS Technical coordinator said his office uses two survey methods in their exercise named, HIV sustenance survey which focuses on pregnant mothers and the National and Sub- National prevalence Estimate which centres on prevalence among the general public in the country.

 According to him, their survey conducted reviewed that, the prevalence rate among pregnant women nationwide was 2.1% indicating that, two (2) out of every hundred (100) pregnant women were affected by the virus. However, the Bono Region had a prevalence rate of 3.4, indicating that 3 in every 100 pregnant women tested positive for the virus.  

For the National and Sub-National Estimate, the national rate was 1.68, indicating that 2 out of 100 from the general public tested positive for the virus, the Bono Region had a 2.5 rate, indicating that approximately 3 out of 100 tested positive for the virus while Ahafo Region had 2.4, indicating that 2 out of 100 tested positive for the virus.

Speaking in an interview with Soiree news, Mr Ahmed Ibrahim Bambila called on the general public to use the A, B, C, D method where A-Abstinence, B- being faithful, C- the use of condom and D- desisting from sharing sharp object E- early treatment of STIs the measure to prevent the spread.

He added that one of the major means the virus spreads is the unavailability of condoms therefore there have been condom ATM machines across the Sunyani Municipality as 10 pesewa coin gives you three pieces of a condom.

He also called on relatives to support persons living with HIV/AIDS and avoid stigmatization.
