Authorities say a 14-year-old boy died after falling from the new drop tower ride at ICON Park in Florida.

Authorities say a 14-year-old kid died after falling from a theme park ride near Orlando on Thursday night.

According to the Orange County Sheriff's Office, the youngster fell from the recently inaugurated Orlando FreeFall rollercoaster at the Orlando-area ICON Park entertainment complex, which is advertised by its owners as the world's largest freestanding drop tower.

Around 11 p.m., deputies were dispatched to the park. According to the sheriff's office, the youngster was transferred to a hospital and died as a result of his injuries.

According to the park's online description, the attraction can accommodate up to 30 riders at a time. According to the website, "after the ride vehicle reaches the top, it will lean forward 30 degrees and face the ground before free-falling over 400 feet at speeds exceeding 75 mph."
