A group of armed robbers have shot the Yilo Krobo Constituency Ambulance that was conveying a pregnant woman to a hospital in the Eastern Region.

The incident happened on Adukron road in the early hours of today, Thursday 4th February 2021.

Reports indicate the driver was shot in the head after he failed to stop when he was transporting a woman in premature labour from Akuse government Hospital in the Lower Manya Krobo with the Yilo Krobo Ambulance to Eastern Regional Hospital due to the non-availability of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).

The Police Patrol team in the district rushed to the scene upon a tip-off but the robbers had fled already. They then conveyed the injured driver and the woman in labour to the Tetteh Quashie Memorial Hospital in Akuapem Mampong for intensive treatment.

The ambulance driver (name withheld) later was sent to Korlebu Teaching Hospital for emergency care.

Acting Public Relation Officer of the Eastern Regional  Police command, Sergeant Francis Gomado confirmed the incident stating that "no arrest has been made so far"

He revealed to SoireeNews 24 that they are investigating the matter to bring the perpetrators to book.
