Afro Nation Nigeria cancelled

The much awaited Afro Nation Nigeria festival that was supposed to happen in Lagos in December 2023 has been cancelled.

Afro Nation Nigeria cancelled

The organizers announced the announcement earlier yesterday in a press release.

The organizers of the performance stated in the aforementioned statement that although it was a painful choice to cancel the highly anticipated event, they were forced to act when it became impossible to provide a show of the caliber that Nigeria deserved.

“Unfortunately, the Afro Nation Nigeria festival in Lagos will now not be taking place. As event organizers, we hold ourselves to extremely high standards, and it has become clear to us that it is currently not possible to deliver a show that is of the quality that Nigeria deserves in December 2023."

“Afro Nation has been at the forefront of the Afrobeats community, providing a platform for artists to connect with their fans and creating events that have a profound impact on global culture. The organizers have successfully hosted spectacular shows in various locations, including Portugal, Ghana, Puerto Rico, Miami, and Detroit.

However, Nigeria holds a special place in their hearts, and the decision to cancel the event was undoubtedly a difficult one,” part of the statement reads.

The statement further expressed gratitude to the fans and supporters, saying, “We know that you are as disappointed as we are, and to all those who have purchased tickets, we love you and thank you for supporting us on this journey. We will see you again soon."
Context

The goal of AfroNation, an inclusive music and arts festival, is to honor and promote African culture on all continents, not only in Africa.
After the organizers and the Ghanaian government inked a five-year partnership agreement, the inaugural event took place in Ghana in 2019.

However, due to the coronavirus pandemic and its subsequent consequences on events, including a restriction on social gatherings, the event was postponed the next year.

The festival, which was organized by Live Nation, Event Horizon, Smade Entertainment, and Memories of Tomorrow, made a triumphant return last year. Among the acts that delighted attendees were performances by American Meek Mill, who served as the festival's headline act; Nigeria's P Square, Tiwa Savage, Rema, and Ckay; and Ghana's team, which included Kuami Eugene, KiDi, Gyakie, and Camidoh.

But when Davido, a music icon from Nigeria, announced in a recent interview on Hot 97 in the US that the festival was coming to his native nation in December, rumors of the well-known event shifting to Nigeria began to circulate in April.

Ghanaian revelers anticipate that Afro Nation will return to Ghana in December in light of the most recent development.
