Ghana's Economic Woes; existential threat to its democracy-CSO warned

Community Focus Foundation Ghana (CFF-GHANA),   a Civil Society Advocacy Group is deeply worried about the excruciating economic hardship Ghanaians have been subjected to, warning about the threat it poses to the country's budding democracy.

The Community Focus Foundation Ghana's warning is contained in a press statement dated October 6, 2022, signed by the Executive Director, Richard Kasu, and copied to Soireenews.com. "It's important to put on record that the economic mess the country finds itself today cannot be attributed to COVID-19 and the war between Russia and Ukraine as the government wants Ghanaians to believe", it stated.

Though he admitted that COVID-19 has distorted economic gains globally, he observed however that If the huge financial support extended to Ghana as a result of COVID-19 were managed effectively, Ghana's economy would not have been in the economic mess. "It is worth noting that wanton corruption, economic mismanagement, and gross incompetence among others are the main causes of our economic woes", he added.

He however conceded that though Ghanaians had experienced some form of economic challenges over the years under previous governments the current harsh economic condition has been the worse form ever experienced under the fourth republic, a situation he warned of an ensuing danger considering the military takeovers within the West African subregion which he said were caused by factors including harsh economic conditions. The aim, he noted is to restore hope to the suffering and disillusioned citizens.
