Voters' Registration: EC to Open its District Offices to Aged, Disabled among others from 2nd August

Ghana’s Electoral Commission (EC) says a team of officials will be available at their district offices across the country from August 2 – July 6, to assist “special” applicants in registering for the Voters’ ID.

A statement from the EC today, June 26, 2020, said “qualified applicants of 60 years of age and above, pregnant women as lactating mothers and persons with disability may visit our district offices between the hours of 7:00 am to 6:00 pm to register.”

It however added that, interested applicants will have to download their Registration form and Guarantors form (where necessary) from the EC’s website (www.ec.gov.gh), have their details filed and presented to the registration team for processing.

As already stipulated, registration at these district offices will also be guided by the provisions of the C.I 126:

“For avoidance of doubt CI 126 spells out the requirement for proof of identification for the purposes of this registration;

3. ‘A person who applies for registration as a voter shall provide as evidence of identification one of the following:

  •  A passport
  •  A National Identification Card issued by the National Identification Authority; or
  • One voter registration identification guarantee form  as set out in Form One of Schedule, that has been completed and signed by two registered voters”
