It rained goals at the Estádio do Sport Lisboa e Benfica on Friday night when Barcelona where totally humiliated by 8-2 in the quarterfinal stage of the Champions League.

 

 

The Bavarians have become the first team in Champions League history to score eight goals in a knockout match, and the first in the European cup since Madrid in 1990.

The distraction started in the fourth minute by Muller, who scored a brace and won the man of the match accolade. Barca loanee, Philippe Coutinho also put in a star performance with a brace in the final minutes of the game as Perisic, Kimmich, and Lewandowski put their names on the final sheet.

 

 

Only Luis Suarez scored a goal for the Spanish giants adding to David Alaba’s 7-minute own goal.

It is also the first time since 2006/07 that there is no Spanish side in the semi-finals of the UEFA Champions League.

Thomas Muller opened the scores in the 4-minute after the German poked a left-footed finish across Ter Stegen into the bottom corner of the net before David Alaba scored an own goal 3-minutes later to level the scores for Setien's side.

 

 

Ivan Perisic doubled their lead in the 21-minute as Serge Gnabry thrashed a fine finish past the Barca goalkeeper to make it three.

Thomas Muller registered his second goal on the night having got across Pique to prod in the fourth to end the first half.

Antoine Griezmann was introduced for Sergi Roberto, which signaled a change of shape for the Blaugranas.

Luis Suarez pulled a goal back for Barcelona in the 57 but Bayern hit them six minutes later with a fifth from Kimmich. Alphonso Davies turned Semedo inside out, raced into the area, and put the ball on the plate for Kimmich.

 

 

Philippe Coutinho assisted Lewandowski with a fine ball which was difficult to miss in the 82-minute having been brought on for Serge Gnabry seven minutes earlier.

The Barca outcast notched two in three minutes, to sum up the game in favor of the Bundesliga side.

The progress marks their 12th Champions League semi-final reach, below Real Madrid who have done it for 13 occasions.
