The ‘Priestess’ said to have masterminded the lynching of 90-year-old Akua Denteh in the Kafaba will appear in court on today, August 5, 2020.

This was disclosed by the Savannah Regional police command

The priestess – identified as  Sherina Mohammed alias Alhajia, aged 40 - was arrested at her hideout at Yeji in the Bono East region by police in Salaga.

Sherina Mohammed is reportedly believed to have pronounced the 90-year-old Madam Akua Denteh as a witch and consequently ordered her lynching.

The 90-year-old Madam Akua Denteh was lynched on Thursday, July 23, 2020 at Kafaba in the East Gonja Municipality on an accusation of being a witch.

She was accused by ‘Hajia Filipino’, of using her witchcraft to work against allowing rain to fall in the area.

Per reports, the priestess is being transported by the police from Yeji to the Salaga Divisional Command for interrogation.

Her arrest brings the number of suspects in police custody to seven with the exception of the Kafaba chief, Zackaria Yahaya who is currently on bail.

From the President, Nana Akufo-Addo, to various civil society groups, the security services have been urged to fish out the culprits who went into hiding after the act.

On Monday, the first key suspect in the lynching was arrested and remanded by the Bole Magistrate Court.
