Lionel Messi will start training on Monday afternoon with his teammates, according to Sky Sports.

The Argentine earlier abandoned training having refused to undergo a PCR testing, following his keen decision to part ways with the club few weeks ago.

Messi had a change of mind on Friday, September 4, 2020, to finish his one-year contract at Camp Nou in a conversation with Goal.

"I thought and was sure that I was free to leave, the president always said that at the end of the season I could decide if I stayed or not," Messi said.

"Now they cling to the fact that I did not say it before June 10, when it turns out that on June 10 we were competing for La Liga in the middle of this awful coronavirus and this disease altered all the season.

"And this is the reason why I am going to continue in the club.”

Gary Cotterillof Sky Sports News reported has updated that the six-time Ballon d'Or winner is likely to show up for training on Monday to begin preparations ahead of the new La Liga season, which kicks off on September 11, 2020.

None of the five teams involved in European competitions in August will take part in the opening weekend of the LaLiga Santander season, including playoff winners Elche.

"Nothing at all confirmed by the club on whether Messi will be training - it's been like that throughout this saga, but it makes perfect sense for Messi to return to training, this afternoon about 4.30 pm UK time,” Gary Cotterill said.

"A few of the other players will be returning from international duty to boost Ronald Koeman's numbers on the training pitch. Messi has missed six days already, one for the COVID test he didn't take and another five days of training.

Messi will not be fined by the Blaugranas for the ineffectual behavior after their Champions League exit in August. The club respects the player’s personal decision and regards his training absence as ‘extra days off’.

“Barcelona have taken a soft stance on his absence, saying they're not going to fine him his missed wages - almost £600,000 out of pocket, he would be, but just count is as a few extra days off, contemplating your future."
