Two jailed for stealing drugs from hospital pharmacy stores

The Wenchi Magistrate Court presided over by His Lordship Abdul Issah Wahab has sentenced a 25 year old security officer working at the Wenchi Methodist hospital and one Ameyaw Emmanuel druggist 18 months into prisons custody each.

The pair were arrested on November 29,2022 in the night.

Inspector Kunsuoyiri Pampouro, the Police prosecutor told the court that on the 29th day of November 2022 night a worker at the Wenchi Methodist hospital found that the special pharmacy store in the facility opened and got closer to see why the door is opened.

When the worker got closer, he found Ameyaw Emmanuel a druggist were loading drugs .

He asked him who ordered him to take the drugs and Ameyaw Emmanuel replied Obontey Solomon, the security officer gave him the key to opened the door and take the drugs.

The prosecution said the worker then informed his colleagues workers and reported the the accused persons to one Retired Chief Inspector of the Ghana Police Service, John Atikpo and subsequently lodge complain for their arrest.

The two accused persons were took to the Wenchi Magistrate Court

Ameyaw Emmanuel was charged with unlawful entry and stealing while Obontey Solomon was also charged for conspiracy to commit crime.

They were both pleaded guilty to their counts and was sentenced to 18 months into the prisons custody.

Investigations reveals that Obontey Solomon worked with the hospital for five years .

Information gathered from the facility by our correspondent Nana Anfreh Damanata also reveals that total cost of missing drugs at the facility values GH¢ 687.00.
