Nigeria train service to resume after March attack

The Nigerian government has declared that train service between the nation's capital, Abuja, and the city of Kaduna in the north will return at some time this month.

Following an attack on a passenger train that resulted in at least eight deaths, services were discontinued eight months ago.

There were more than 60 other kidnappings. Over seven months, they were released in segments, with the final group being freed in October.

According to Nigeria's Transport Minister Mu'azu Sambo, there is enough security in place to guarantee the security of passengers.

He could not provide a precise start date for the services.

Attacks by jihadists and bandits, kidnapping for ransom, and separatist agitations are all contributing to the nation's ongoing struggle with increased insecurity.
