Jubilation Galore As Kwahu Easter Annual Festival Bouces Back But Traditional Authorities Warn Trouble makers

There was a joyful atmosphere on Sunday, March 6, 2022, when the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Kwahu South Municipal Assembly in the Eastern Region, Mr. Emmanuel Atta Ofori Senior has announced that there are arrangements for the celebration of the annual Kwahu Easter festival this year.
According to the MCE, plans were made for the visitors and tourists from the diaspora who are also expected to mark this year’s Kwahu Easter Paragliding by the Ministry of Tourism would a trip to the famous Odweanoma mountain which is the take-off point.
The MCE assured the people of Ghana, particularly the citizens of Kwahu Traditional Area that this year's Kwahu Easter Festival would be celebrated after a 2-year break of the festival due to the worlds' deadly Coronavirus (COVID-19) Pandemic.
According to the MCE, the chiefs, elders, and stakeholders in the area have taken the final decision and assumed that this year's Kwahu Easter celebration will take place with all its activities.
He revealed that Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) has begun engagements in readiness to celebrate this year's Kwahu Easter.
He added that plans were underway to organize the paragliding festival and Kwahu Trade Fare under strict COVID 19 protocols this year.
Mr. Atta Ofori Senior stated that necessary arrangements were made by the Assembly and the traditional authorities to deal ruthlessly with troublemakers and called on all and sundry to come and witness the Kwahu culture and various tourist attractions.
"We don't want to experience the situation when the occasion will be characterized by robberies, brawls, and other criminal activities which have happened in the recent times. Because of that, we have taken the necessary arrangements to ensure that the police deal ruthlessly with troublemakers," the MCE noted.
He explained that the annual Kwahu Easter used to boast the economic ventures in the Kwahu enclave, and so, therefore, KWAHU OOOH KWAHU!! will be celebrated this year to raise the Assembly's revenue for development.
The annual Kwahu Easter celebration which has gained international recognition since its inception is one of the biggest tourism events for the Ministry of Tourism Arts and Culture and the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA).
But traditional officeholders in Kwahu Traditional Council told journalists that they have observed that the Kwahu Easter festival which began years back seems to be losing its prime focus.
They stated that the way and manner in which the youth dress during the celebration is not something we are not happy about.
According to them, they never dressed that way during the olden days because they dressed modestly.
They stressed that "Now there are a lot of changes, bad dressing, and lifestyles which has characterized the celebrations is what we want to abolish and do away with."
The traditional officeholders in Kwahu Traditional Council revealed to the Journalists how they are worried about the lifestyle and fashion sense of the youth.
During the Kwahu Easter festival, they pointed out that l it becomes difficult to understand the way some people dress, the attire of the ladies is an eyesore.
They stated that the traditional authorities always plead with them to dress decently but every year they come back to do the same or worse.
They indicated that the annual Kwahu Easter festival is not about dressing, saying that during their youthful days, they used to dress in clothes but now the ladies were short shorts and mini skirts which exposes vital parts of their bodies.
"So we are pleading with you to inform them to be responsible," the traditional authorities stressed.
They admonished the youth to use the occasion to learn about the tradition.
They cautioned that the youth have been engaging in tramadol abuse and other hard drugs but they advised them to know that Easter is not about that.
They stressed that the police and other security agencies have been given the mandate to arrest and put in custody trouble fermentors during the celebration.
