The Deputy Ashanti Regional Police Commander, ACP David Agyemang Adjem has pronounced that it is vitalizing to disinfect and fumigate the various police stations in the Ashanti Region assuring that the exercise will help contain the coronavirus from heightening in the country.

He further underlined that Police Officers are responsible for their safety hence the need to observe the preventive health measures outlined by the Health Service in the fight against COVID-19 and endorsed by the president of Ghana i.e. admiring social distancing protocols, washing of hands under running water, and wearing of facemasks.

 

 

“It is, therefore, refreshing that this program is starting and we are sure that it will be a successful one and help us contain this scare,” ACP David Agyemang Adjem addressed.

“May I take this opportunity to advise the police officers and male present that their safety lies in their own hands as the president has directed, we should ensure that we wash our hands all the time and if that is not possible, we use the hand sanitizers. We should also ensure that we wear out protect head coverings (facemasks) and the social distancing protocols are strictly observed,” he ended.

The launch of the Disinfection and Fumigation of all Police Stations in the Ashanti Region took place on Tuesday, May 19, 2020, at the Kumasi Central Police Station conference room. The exercise, partnered by Zoomlion Ghana Limited across 158 Police Stations in the Region will be effected within five days beginning from the day of the launch -Tuesday.

 

 

According to ACP David Agyemang Adjem, the purpose is to contain the spread of coronavirus at the stations following recorded cases of Police officers testing positive for COVID-19.

“We are here to kick-start this program of fumigating all police stations in the Ashanti Region. As you are all aware, we have had positive cases from some of our police cells and of course, some of our men have tested positives for the virus because they were at the forefront,” he confirmed.

He acknowledged the various collaborators for their provisions and backing that is realizing the achievement of the exercise.

“Let me take this opportunity to thank everybody who during this period, from the Regional Minister to the Regional administration and all companies and philanthropies who came to assist us. We say a very big thank you, and like Oliver Twist, we always ask for more, so we need your support for all of us to fight this canker," he said.

 

 

The disinfection began at the Central Police Station where the environment involving the buildings, vehicles, bikes was sprayed. Speaking to one of the General Managers of Zoomlion Ghana Limited, Philip Yeboah Asante in a press briefing, he addressed that the disinfectants that are been used in the exercise are not threatening to lives given that the security personnel will have to hang on for an hour and a half before resuming their duties.

 

 

“We-ve gone round with our teams to visit all the police facilities and we came out with a strategy that will facilitate the exercise so that the police can move in about one hour thirty minutes for their various activities.

"They need their offices as early as possible so they will move out quickly for the disinfection, then we will move to their barracks to do more of the fumigation. That’s where you 'll find the rodents and insects,” he said.

 

 

He advised that institutions who want their premises fumigated could contact Zoomlion Ghana Limited for agreement to be made before carrying out the exercise.

“The various institutions can also approach Zoomlion, we can be in agreement and fumigate their offices for them including individual homes also,” he ended.
