Be proud of who you are, hold onto what makes you different- Dagbamete Queenmother

Queen Mother of Dagbamete, a farming community within the Lower Volta section of the Akatse South District of the Volta Region, Mama Adzorhlor III is admonishing the Ewes living in the land of Dagbamete to lift their heads above all odds.

She is again encouraging Ewes to have every reason to be proud of who they are and hold onto what makes them different from other tribe.

By so doing, Mama Adzorhlor III noted that the ideals and values would bequeathed to generations after them. The move, according to her, will aid in preserving the uniqueness of the Dagbamete culture. She expressed fears of Africa drifting away from the unique culture passed on to them and urged that they stay put while rallying their children to appreciate the beauty of it to the core. Mama Adzorhlor III added saying, "we must hold on to our traditions because there is no grass greener nowhere". One way to revert the narrative, she said is to dwell on plants in the country which possess unique benefits such as beans and leaves, cassava and leaves, baobab fruit and leaves some of which are used for medicine and food among others. She said the refusal to live on herbs as food and medicine is the reason for various sicknesses such diabetes, cancer and the likes. " In days past, whenever we went to the farm, we eat there, bathe there and no one sprays farms with chemicals so even the farm and crops are wholesome for consumption", Mama Adzorhlor III mumbled. She maintains that throwing away of the ideas of herbs coupled with the consumption of same will be detrimental to the health and well-being of the people. On animals, she said, our forebears raised chicken, goats, sheep and other animals at home for food and never dwelt on frozen foods. "In the olden days, our forefathers grow farms around their houses with tomatoes, pepper, garden eggs, onion, "gboma"(leafy vegetables), they work in their farms to keep fit and body in check. We think eating frozen foods makes a person " a big person" and those who eat "Keta schools boys(herrings) are the " poor people" but I must tell you what, they are the healthy people. Why will I throw "Me" away?", she asked.
