Waste management and sanitation company, Zoomlion Ghana has begun disinfection and fumigation exercise at the Sunyani Airport, as contractors working on the rehabilitation and expansion of the airport put finishing touches for flight operations to begin in March.

According to the Bono Regional Minister, Justina Owusu-Banahene, the Regional Coordinating Council, and the Ghana Airport Company Limited have engaged the company to undertake the disinfection and fumigation exercises, until flight operations are expected to begin in March this year.
The Bono Regional Minister disclosed during an inspection visit by her team to the construction site of the Airport.
During an inspection visit to the airport, Mad Owusu-Banahene said she was impressed with the level of work done so far, and she is hopeful the contractors would speed up to meet the deadline.
Though the contractors were not met on-site, the Regional Minister said work on the facility was about 95 percent complete, with minor works to be done on the runway, saying work on the project was expected to be completed by February this year.
Rehabilitation of the Sunyani Airport
Rehabilitation works on the Sunyani Airport which was halted have begun in earnest. The objective of the rehabilitation project is to, among other things, ensure that facilities and services at the airport meet all international safety and security standards.
The scope of work includes rehabilitation/reconstruction and extension of the existing runway, rehabilitation of existing taxi link, rehabilitation, and upgrade of the existing apron, resurfacing of internal roads, rehabilitation, and remodeling of the existing terminal building to make space for all necessary terminal facilitation.
It will be recalled that in March 2015, the Sunyani Airport was temporarily shut down due to the extent of visible deterioration of the airfield.
