Hakim Ziyech and Emerson goals were enough to advance Chelsea into the last eight of the Champions League.

The win means the Blues are unbeaten in their 13 games under Thomas Tuchel in all competitions, the longest ever unbeaten start by a manager for the Blues in the club's history.

After a 1-0 win at the Wanda Metropolitano, the Blues were waiting to get the job done to know their next opponents on Friday, March 19 during the Champions League draw.

Chelsea took the lead in the 34-minute through Hakim Ziyech when Atletico Madrid were caught on the counter. Havertz showed good strength and awareness to play Werner down the left. He looked up and saw the advancing Hakim Ziyech in the centre and the forward slid his finish beyond Oblak.

James and Kante later combined before the ball was played square for Kovacic to curl right-footed goalwards but it veered a yard or so wide of Oblak's right-hand post to end the first half.

Timo Werner came close but was denied by Rojiblancos defence from aiming perfectly at goal

The Blues kept asking questions from the Laliga leaders for their second goal as Havertz almost came close to scoring in the 75-minute following a gifted Hermoso's clearance which cascaded into the back of the German and almost fell kindly for Werner but Oblak was able to just get there first.

Atletico were reduced in numbers when Savic was shown a straight red card for elbowing Rudiger in the chest although soft. The Chelsea defender’s reaction was theatrical but it's an elbow nonetheless and Atletico were punished.

As the game was being wrapped up, Emerson from the bench made a quick impact by doubling the hosts' advantage. Chelsea once again break at speed and were three on one as they bore down on Oblak's goal. Pulisic fed Emerson, who sprinted upfield to be there alongside him, and he smashed it into the corner with his first touch.

The Blues advanced into the last eight on a 3-0 aggregate.
