Zambia ex-president: I'm ready to face the law

Edgar Lungu, a former president of Zambia, claims he is prepared to go to jail if he was caught stealing while in office.

Mr. Lungu is dissatisfied that he has been under investigation for crimes allegedly committed while he was president, together with his former government officials and family members.

He was especially upset that on Thursday, state officials went to a piece of property he owns to conduct investigations.

To record, Mr. Lungu has subsequently pleaded with his successor Hakainde Hichilema to begin the process of removing his constitutional immunity from prosecution.

He later informed lawmakers and supporters of his Patriotic Front party who visited him, "He who alleges, must prove and we will defend ourselves."

To eventually establish the crimes I committed, he urged the president to implement the lifting of my immunity by presenting a case in parliament.

Mr. Lungu, who last year lost the presidency to Mr. Hichilema, has already refuted numerous accusations of corruption made against him.
