World Refugee Day: We Have Never Regreted Hosting Ivorian Refugee In Ghana, Ampain Chief.

Honourable Ambrose Derry, the Interior Minister of Ghana speaking at the celebration said, the government of Ghana is committed to providing the needed support to all refugees in the country without discrimination.

World Refugee Day: We Have Never Regreted Hosting Ivorian Refugee In Ghana, Ampain Chief.

The Chief of Ampain in the Ellembelle District  of the Western Region of Ghana, Nana Nyameke Fofole has said, his community has never regretted hosting Ivorian refugeessss in the country. 

The Ampain town in the Ellembelle District of the Western region is the community that has hosted the Ivorian refugees since 2011 when a civil war broke in Cote D Viore.

Nana Nyameke Fofole speaking at this year's World refugee day held at Ampain said, his community has never regretted hosting the Ivorian refugees who are living with his community members to shelter them over the years. 
 
He added that he will ensure a peaceful co-existence between the community and the refugees.

World Refugee Day was first celebrated on June 20, 2001, to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the 1951 Convention Relating to the Status of Refugees. On World Refugee Day, we celebrate refugees' contributions and seek to build empathy and understanding for their plight and their resilience to build a bright future. 


The theme for this year's celebration is whoever wherever right to seek safety.

Honorable Ambrose Derry, the Interior Minister of Ghana speaking at the celebration said, the government of Ghana is committed to providing the needed support to all refugees in the country without discrimination.

He entreated all refugees living in Ghana to abide by the laws of the country to ensure a peaceful co-existence.

The United Nations High Commission for Refugees Representative, Madam Esther Kiragu addressing the gathering said, Ghana has been helpful to the refugees of Cote d'Ivoire for the past 11 years after the civil war and Ghana received the refugees to host them here and has also praised their existence in living with Ghanaians for the past decade.
