As the world celebrates Daughters day, Ghanaian families have been advised by the Bono Regional Director for Gender, Mad Joyce Addi to prioritize the welfare of their daughters and what they do to their sons.

According to her, daughters can also serve the same purpose as sons if given the same resources and attention.

World daughters’ day is celebrated on every fourth Sunday of September every year to mark the birth of a girl-child.

In our past years, the birth of a girl-child is known to be a burden to families and see no value in the upbringing of a girl for it is known that the rightful place for a girl in the kitchen and taking care of the family or house.

In the current era, girls are now proving to the world that their place is no longer the kitchen therefore the belief of girls taking care of the house and family have been proven futile since there are female high personalities in the world now.

But as the world is changing and girls are now challenging men in everything, some fathers still believe that the birth of a girl-child is a burden and there is no benefit as in profit in the upbringing of girls since girls are born to get married to and carry a family’s heritage by child-bearing.

This day is celebrated to encourage girl-child bearing in families and encourage our daughters in achieving their dreams and aims.
