Women's Under-20 World Cup: Ghana will play defending champions Japan in Costa Rica

At the Women's Under-20 World Cup in Costa Rica in August, Ghana has been placed in the same group as reigning champions Japan.

In Group D, the Black Princesses will meet three-time winners USA and the Netherlands, who will be competing in their sixth straight final.

In their previous five visits, Ghana has never advanced beyond the group rounds.

Nigeria was drawn in Group C alongside France, Canada, and South Korea, despite having competed in all nine previous tournaments.

Each of the four groups' top two players will advance to the quarterfinals.

The event, which was postponed in 2020 because of the Covid-19 outbreak, will begin on August 10 and conclude 18 days later.

Women's Under-20 World Cup draw:

Group A: Costa Rica (hosts), Australia, Spain, Brazil.

Group B: Germany, Colombia, New Zealand, Mexico.

Group C: France, Nigeria, Canada, South Korea.

Group D: Japan (holders), Netherlands, Ghana, USA.
