The Consultative Stakeholders meeting themed “empowering women through a mobile application for economic development” preceded an intensive mobile app development training program under the Pathway to Sustainable Employment (PaSE) program by WAN-Hive Ghana in partnership with Ghana Tech Lab (GTL).

The program will be rolled out November this year.

Other partners include the MasterCard Foundation, Ministry of Communications Ghana, World Bank, and Young Africa Works.

The engagement was held to build consensus, gather feedbacks and recommend strategies that would help develop an implementation policy for the upcoming intensive training program on Mobile app development for young people in the Sunyani ecosystem.

The maiden engagement drew various stakeholders in the Sunyani ecosystem from government agencies, media, entrepreneurs, financial institutions, investors, and students together to formulate the best policies to see to the successful implementation of the upcoming mobile app development training.

Speaking at the event, Miss Janat Issifu, the founder and the CEO of WAN-Hive Ghana said the program will focus on training and empowering women in technology, entrepreneurship, and social development.

She added that “this will promote digital skills and entrepreneurship in the ecosystem here in the Bono Region and also create opportunities for sustainable employment for the youth especially young ladies”.

She highlighted the benefits of technology in "our world and how it would help the trainees reach wider markets, a great opportunity for young people especially ladies to receive an employment technological training to improve on their skillset for economics empowerment."

Mr Charles Atonyne, a Sales Officer at the Vanguard Assurance and a participant of the event lauded the organizers for the event he said; “since the world has advanced technologically, the program will help the young people in the Sunyani ecosystem to equip themselves well to improve their skill-set for economic development”.

Miss AppianingAsubonteng Dorothy, a final year student of UNER and a participant called on various financial institutions to support start-ups to accelerate their development.

Mrs Joycelyn Adii, the Bono, Bono East, and Ahafo Regional Director of the Department of Gender also speaking at the event encouraged that women show more commitment to participate in such program and further advised young ladies to work hard to acquire technological skills training programs at their disposal to help empower them economically.

According to her, the skills learned can be commercialized to earn income which will bridge the huge social-economic gap that exists between men and women in our various societies.

“Most women need to learn mobile app development because most people are moving towards that space and it's now the order of the day. They can gain money from this area too,” Mrs Adii advised.

The program ended with some final words from the CEO and founder of WAN-Hive Ghana urging all the stakeholders to continue supporting the activities of organizations and together build the Sunyani ecosystem economically.
