The Lagos State Police Commander has arrested a 28-year-old man Okwuchukwu Ibekwe, who resided in the Iyana Iba area of Lagos, for allegedly selling his 5 months old baby to a child merchant in Anambra State for N400, 000.

According to the man, he sold his child because of financial difficulties and purportedly decided with his wife to sell him.

According to the media, the Ibekwes offered their child to one Chinelo, who reportedly stays in Ihiala, Anambra State, and is on the run. It was uncovered that Chinelo gave the child's father N250, 000 while the child's mother was also supposed to receive N150, 000. However, when Mr. Ibekwe got back from Anambra state, he did not give the wife her part, so she reported to the police and escaped from the house making the report.

Okwuchukwu was arrested and kept at the Police Gender Unit, Ikeja, while police agents additionally arrested Chinelo's wife in Anambra State. The child and Chinelo are yet to be found.
