Former Aviation Minister, Femi Fani-Kayode, has disclosed why he joined the All Progressives Congress, (APC).

Fani-Kayode explained that the APC he joined was different from the one he heavily criticized in the past.

The former minister had officially defected to the ruling party on Thursday, September 16, 2021.

His defection was disclosed at the Presidential Villa, Abuja when he was presented to President Muhammadu Buhari by the acting National Chairman of APC.

However, the former minister explained that he joined a forward-thinking and accommodating party.

Speaking with Channels Television, Fani-Kayode insisted that he joined APC to maintain national unity.

Asked if he joined for financial gain, he said: “I find that very insulting whether it is coming from you or my critics, I am not the first person that would decamp to the APC, have you asked others this same question?

“If you ask all politicians this question, you will get the same answer; nobody knows tomorrow. I have my values and I will continue to work towards that.”

Fani-Kayode further disclosed that Buhari was delighted with his decision to join the ruling party.

He said the President expressed his delight during a meeting at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, yesterday.

Fani-Kayode, in a series of tweets of Friday, September 17, 2021, wrote: “It was an honour and a privilege to visit President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa, Aso Rock, yesterday in the company of my dear friends and brothers, Governor Mala Mai-Buni and Governor Bello Matawalle.

“Mr President received us very warmly and we had an excellent meeting. I intimated to him of my decision to join the APC and he was delighted with the news.

“Now we move forward together to make our country a better place and to bring peace, love and stability to our shores. God bless Nigeria.”

The former PDP chieftain was a staunch critic of Buhari, his government and the APC.
