The mysterious reason why Ewe individuals or individuals living in the Volta Region of Ghana are called number 9 is finally out.

The Ewes are the second biggest ethnic group in Ghana, with a populace of 6.1 million. In Togo, they have a populace of 3.1 million.

A post made by a famous Ghanaian on Twitter, Kafui Dey, has revealed the way they got the number 9 title and not the alternate way individuals think.

According to him, he reveals the name got through the Miss Ghana challenge in 1957. The woman who won the challenge was from Alavanyo, addressing the Volta Region or Trans-Volta Togoland, named Monica Amekoafia.

Her challenge number was 9. After she was declared the winner, her contender number, 9, became a well-known name in the Volta Region and was used to address people from Trans-Volta Togoland, also known as Voltarians.

He wrote,’’ this is the beautiful Monica Amekoafia, winner of the first edition of the Miss Ghana contest in 1957 from Alavanyo representing the Trans Volta Togoland. She is contestant Number 9. It was from her number that people from the Volta Region are called Number 9.’’
