WHO emergency hub caught up in Kenya land dispute

A property ownership issue has put the World Health Organization's (WHO) proposal to erect an emergency hub in Kenya in peril.

One of Kenya's finest universities' vice chancellor has been fired as a result of the conflict.

Land at Kenyatta University was given to the WHO and the Africa Center for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC).

According to the Reuters news agency, the facility will contain a training center, housing for specialists who can respond to a medical emergency within the first 24 hours, and stocks of medical supplies.

On Saturday, the $5 million (£4.2 million) facility's development was officially opened by the Kenyan government and WHO.

But Kenyatta University opposed the allocation, saying it was done without its approval.

President Uhuru Kenyatta publicly criticised the vice-chancellor, saying he would take swift action against those opposing the project.
