Wenchi records 330 pregnancies in the first six months in 2022

Mr. Robert Kwaku Bio, the Wenchi Municipal Health Director of the Ghana Health Service in the Bono Region has disclosed that the municipality has recorded 330 teenage pregnancies within the last six months of the year 2022.

He disclosed this during the Wenchi Municipal Health Directorate held its mid-year performance review with stakeholders.

Mr. Robert Kwaku Bio noted that data in the first six months of the year is an alarming rate of teenage pregnancy in the area.

Mr. Kwaku Bio in a presentation on teenage pregnancies from 2020 to half of 2022 is rather increasing instead of decreasing.

According to him pregnancies among children within the municipality range from 10 to 19 years.

In 2020 the Wenchi Municipal Directorate of the Ghana Health Service recorded a total of 313 pregnancies and declined to 288 in 2021 he said.

We were hoping for more deduction on the numbers but unfortunately on the outside, e it has jumped to 330 in the first six months of the year,,20, and,22 Mr. Bio noted.

He attributed the rise to a lack of " irresponsible parents" and the rampant use of social media by teenagers.

He, therefore, charged parents, and other stakeholders to take charge of the situation and find a lasting solution to the menace.
