Wenchi Municipal Assembly Elects Presiding Member

Honorable James Kwasi Odor Asare pledged to work in collaboration with the heads of departments to actualize the vision of the Assembly

Wenchi Municipal Assembly Elects Presiding Member

Wenchi Municipal Assembly held a special meeting for the election of the Presiding Member of the Assembly and the composition sub-committees.

The 3 times Presiding Member who holds the position of Presiding Member for seven years, Honorable Samuel Mensah stepped down and the seat became vacant for new contestants.

The new contestants are Mr. Henry Amewowor an elected Assembly Member for Dwomoh Ntermah electoral area at Nchiraa, and Mr. James Kwasi Odor Asare a Government Appointee.

Mr. James Kwasi Odor Asare secured 24 votes whilst Mr. Henry Amewowor had 12 votes with 4 rejected ballots at the end of round one.

After failing to secure two-thirds majority votes of members present in round one to elect the presiding member, members of the assembly held deliberations to reach a consensus on the elections.

At the end of round two of the elections, Mr. James Kwasi Odor Asare polled 28 votes while Mr. Henry Amewowor had 12 votes out of the total votes cast.

The elections were supervised by the Wenchi Municipal chairperson of the Electoral Commission of Ghana, Mrs. Christina Opoku.

Mr. James Kwasi Odor Asare was declared the winner for the Presiding Member for the Wenchi Municipal Assembly to serve two years in office.

His Wardship Abdullai Issah Wahab the Magistrate of Wenchi Municipal Court (District Court) sworn the Presiding Member, Hon. James Kwasi Odor Asare into office.

He swore two Oaths, the al Oath, and the Oath of Secrecy.

In his acceptance speech, Honorable James Kwasi Odor Asare thanked the Assembly Members, the Electoral Officer, and the Heads of Department for the honor bestowed upon him.

He pledged to work in collaboration with the heads of departments to actualize the vision of the Assembly.

The Municipal Chief Executive, Hon Alexander Obour Damoah thanked the Assembly Members for their mandatory role played in the the the fulfillment of the Local Governance Act 936.

He congratulates Hon James Kwasi Odor Asare and assured him of a serene environment to work together to achieve remarkable results in his tenure as the PM of the Wenchi Municipal Assembly.
