National Association of Widows President, Madam Philomena Antwiwaa

The National Association of Widows President, Madam Philomena Antwiwaa has appealed to Ghanaians to be content with the concord that exists between one another by sincerely defending the peace enjoining them regardless of political interest.

According to her, when war breaks in Ghana, the aged and widows would be vulnerable; an approach they are not ready to welcome hence their cry to God to watch over the country and ward off hostility.

“Election is close and we thought it appropriate to come together as widows together with chiefs to advise the youth to desist from violence,” she said.

“There is no need to fight because one’s there is violence, our woes as widows will be much and the aged will have nowhere to run to. We are pleading to our politicians to let peace and sanity prevail on December 7 and we believe very well that God will see us through another election year,” she added.

The National Association of Widows 2020 Annual Conference was held on Friday, November 13, 2020, at the Jubilee Park in the capital of the Ashanti Region.

This year’s was purposely designed for prayers on behalf of Ghana towards the December 7 elections. Hundreds of widows were clad in their white clothes together with Nananom to intercede for understanding between political parties and followers with less than three weeks to make a choice.

Madam Philomena cautioned the youth not to be swayed by political talks nonetheless, they must reflect on the effect of their wrongful actions regarding their future and make the right decision on December 7.

She advised the flagbearers of the two main political parties; Nana Akufo Addo of the New Patriotic Party and John Mahama of the National Democratic Congress to serve as good models for their followers and avoid violent talks which could twitch confusion.

“Majority of the leaders have their children out of the country and would not partake in the electoral exercise. It is our mandate as citizens so make the best choice by defining them through their works and peacefully vote. That’s what is desired of us.

“Nana Addo and Mahama should speak to their people to avoid war songs because they are the major candidates who command lots of followers. Should there be peace or violence, they will play a role hence my plea to them.”
