Thousands of women who are traders in the Madina market in the Greater Accra Ghana have lamented that the wake of coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic has adversely caused large-scale loss of monies they are using to operate their small scale businesses in the market.

The distraught women had showcased many evidences on the COVID-19 crisis impacts on Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in their market and called on the government to come to their aid.
Following this development, the women in the market called on government to support them to access interest free loans to help improve their businesses.

The women made the appeal during a Town Hall Meeting organised by BudglT Ghana, a civic organization that applies technology to ensure transparency and Accountability.
The meeting was aimed at strengthening and supporting the market women on how to operate businesses and economic activities.
 during and after the crisis.

Speaking on behalf of the women at Madina Market, Madam Elsie Bekoe and Mr. Eric Awuke Kakraba further emphasized the need for the central government to give affordable or interest free loans to traders as a way of cushioning them in the effects of COVID-19 crisis.

For her part, the Programmes Officer for  BudgIT Ghana Miss Nancy Avevor noted that the organization aimed at helping the market women by supporting them to develop  strategies on how to operate businesses.

She noted that market Women are crucial to the socioeconomic development of the society.
