We Can't Give You The Promised Seed Capital Now - Akufo Addo Tells SD Dombo University

The President of the Republic, His Excellency, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has informed management of the Simon Diedong Dombo University of Business and Integrated Development Studies to as excised patience, as the current state of the economy will not be able to give the university $100M dollars as seed capital for the institution as promised by him after it was given autonomy in 2019.

The President, however, assured the university of its commitment to completing all abandoned projects in phases very soon. 

He said this at the first investiture of the first VICE CHANCELLOR and the swearing-in of the first Registrar for University.

According to him, he is in active discussion with the Finance Minister to resolve the seed capital issue.

He further assured the Vice-Chancellor and the university that his government will help ensure the university fulfilled its mandate.

The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Philip Duku Osei on his part said the university is established by the government of Ghana for the Upper West Region to flourish.

According to him, University is meant for great things including the mandate of research and giving advice to businesses and institutions that will be transformational.

He promised to work with all stakeholders to help build the Simon Diedong University of Business and Integrated Development Studies.

He however lamented the huge infrastructure Gap and the unavailability of the seed money that the president promised. Adding that plans are in place to introduce additional programs.

He further outlined his developmental agenda for the University in the coming years.

Professor Osei is a graduate of the University of Ghana, University of Manchester, UK, and the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow, where he obtained his Ph.D. in Research in Government.

He was awarded the much-coveted Overseas Development Agency Shared Scholarship Scheme in 1991, and the Post-doctoral mid-career Commonwealth Academic Fellowship in 2005. Professor Osei is a leader in his field and an academic entrepreneur.

The university emerged from the former university for development (UDS) Wa campus, the Simon Diedong Dombo university of Business and integrated development studies (SDD-UBIDS) in 2019 by an act of Parliament (ACT 1001) and came to be in May 2020 with its main campus in Wa, to be an outstanding international-acclaimed applied research and practical-oriented education institution dedicated to the development of business and integrated development studies and related matters
