We Are  Disappointed  In Our NDC MPs  For Failing Us  – Residents Of Sege -Battor- Aveyime -Mepe Fire Salvos

Residents of Mepe, Battor, Aveyime and their adjoining communities in the North Tongu District of the Volta Region and Sege Ada East District of the Greater Accra Region have decended heavily on their Member of Parliament (MP) for North Tongu Constituency, Mr Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa and Member of Parliament (MP) for Sege Ada East Constituency, Mr Christian Corleytey Otuteye.

The residents angry at the two MPs who were voted into the parliament on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for failing to redeem their campaign promises to lobby for the fixing of the deplorable nature of Sege-Battor-Aveyime-Mepe road network including some inner roads with the recognized traditional areas.

According to the residents, several efforts for them to get the North Tongu and Sege Ada East District Assemblies and the two MPs to impress upon the government to fix the roads had also proved futile.

They lamented the road that link Sege-Battor-Aveyime to Mepe has become so bad over the years that motorist, commuters, students and workers find it difficult to use them for their daily activities.

According to them, the road has become a death trap, leading to motor traffic accidents.

They cited five passengers traveling on a taxi cab who have been killed in an accident at Amiyawkorpe off the Sege-Battor road in the Dangme East District on Tuesday December 12, 2017 as an example.

‘‘After we voted for the two MPs on the ticket of the NDC into office, our expectations have not been met, the two MPs made many promises during the election but have accomplished none, the most significant of all is the Sege.Battor-Aveyime to Mepr road which has become a white elephant in these communities leaving majority frustrated," some commercial drivers plying Sege to Mepe road revealed.

They pointed that they could not fathom why the two MPs and the two district assemblies have over the years turned a blind eye on the deteriorating roads, threatening that they would hit the streets in the coming days to protest and demand the construction of that stretch of road.

In addition, some natives who spoke on anonymity narrated that, besides the bad road network issue, the Sege, Battor, Aveyime and their adjoining communities lack access to several infrastructural development, such as computer lab, and others.

They called upon the government to come to their aid as soon as possible and provide those essential amenities for them.

‘‘We love the two MPs and voted for them, but we have regretted since our toil has turned to be fruitless, we are calling on the President to pay attention to our plea and assist us,’’ the residents stressed.

However investigation have revealed that the bad nature of the  inner roads within the Battor Traditional Area has informed the decision of the Concerned Youth of Battor to the North Tongu District Assembly to to fix the roads because pupils could not go to school as a result of bad link roads.

In a petition sighted by soireenews.com, the youth pointed that the children could easily get drowned in ponds that have developed on the main road leading to the Battor Senior High School and other schools in the area.

The situation, according to the residents, is affecting businesses in the town as guest houses located in these areas are revenue  due to the nature of the roads.
Battor generates the highest revenue for the assembly and the assembly could easily construct the roads,” Amegbanu Wisdom added.

Speaking in an interview with soireenews.com, Mr. Amegbanu also said efforts to petition the Member of Parliament of the area, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa and the Paramount Chief to intervene have also not yielded any positive results.

He, on behalf of the residents, called on authorities to as a matter of urgency to step in to quickly resolve their grievances.

The bad roads network in Mepe Traditional was not different from how it was in Battor.

This road connects Battor to Mepe and Mafi-Davime but has become almost impassable, and is causing a great deal of inconvenience to its users.

The major road from Mepe through Mafi Devime to Dome Main Junction off Sogakope Aflao road which forms part of the Central Tongue District is a perfect example of a bad road network which has a bridge synonymous to a death trap waiting patiently to snap.
