 An 18-year-old from one (1) student of Gyaase Senior High School at Endwa in the Assin North District of the Central Region has met his untimely death after drowning in River Konkoom.

Joseph Asante has reported dead after drowning in the River Konkoom which lies between Assin Akomfode and Assin Endwa.

The River serves as a source from which residents resort particularly during periods of water shortages within the enclave.

Joseph Asante was reported to have gone there to fetch water when he met his untimely death.

It is not clear if he went swimming in the River however his colleagues explained that after football training, he went to draw water to wash down.

While drawing the water, the colleague further said his bucket fell into the River and in his attempt to salvage the bucket, he slipped and got drowned in the River.

"In the process of drawing the water, the deceased's bucket fell into it and in an attempt to save it, he slipped and got drowned", an eyewitness recounted.

Some good Samaritans including his college students were able to rescue him from the water and rushed him to the St. Francis Xavier Hospital in Assin Foso but was pronounced dead on arrival.

Meanwhile, the grandmother of the deceased, Madam Ekua Martha could not hold back her tears at the loss.

The Assembly Member of the Area, Hon Eric Osei confirmed the incident and said the school authority will be communicating the unfortunate incident to the family of the deceased.

He however hinted that his outfit will investigate why the water supply was interrupted at the time of the report.

Consequently, the Assin Praso Police Station Officer, Chief Inspector Bukari Iddrisu Iddi says a team of investigators from Assin Praso District Command are currently at St. Francis Catholic Hospital, Assin Foso to commence an investigation and undertake subsequent necessary interventions as duly required.
