VIS Ghana Embarks on Stop Tratta Campaign to Train Ambassadors.

Three None-Governmental Organisations NGOs namely International Volunteer for Development (VIS Ghana), Don Bosco Youth Network, and the Italian Bishop Conference have embarked on Stop Tratta Campaign to train ambassadors to campaign against irregular migration in both the Bono and Bono East regions respectively in Sunyani of the Bono Region.

The campaign which was aimed to train ambassadors to continue in education against anti-human trafficking from Ghana to Italy was in focus.

According to VIS Ghana Project Manageress, Ms. Sylvia Tipsy, irregular migration from Ghana to Italy has been on the rise and the youth must be encouraged to desist from such an approach to travel overseas.

She said, everyone has the right to travel but the risk involved in traveling through the Sahara desert poses a lot of risks such as death, violence, kidnapping, sexual assault, robbery, health, and migration rights issues especially if you enter into a country illegally amongst others without food and water all the days and months on the desert.

She added that the Stop Tratta Campaign has been initiated to encourage the youth in Ghana to have hope in the country to live here and survive since there are so many avenues to enable a person to progress here better than to migrate irregularly.

She, therefore, called on the youth to love their country to take advantage of the local industry, especially in the agric sector and trade.

The sub-queen mother of Berekum Senase in the Berekum East Municipal, Nana Akosua Fakyewaa also advised the youth of Ghana to avoid embarking on irregular migration to Italy and other European countries but should take the available opportunities in the country in the agric sector and local businesses to survive here than to travel through the Sahara desert which is full of risk and danger.

She finally advised the Stop the Tratta Ambassadors to spread the message to campaign in their various communities to help reduce the high rate of irregular migration in both the Bono and Bone East Regions.

The official launch of the #StopTrattaPhotoExhibit campaign and sod cutting was done as well as the Facebook Ambassadors Contest Edition to pave way for the ambassadors to begin their campaign work of #StopTrattaPhotoExhibit campaigns to move from community to community with all the strategies adopted for the campaign.
