Vinicius Jnr and Asensio sink Reds as Salah comes with an away goal; Real Madrid 3 - 1 Liverpool

Across all European competitions, no side have beaten Liverpool more often than Real Madrid (4, level with Benfica), with the Reds suffering defeat in each of their last four encounters with Los Blancos.

Real Madrid will take a two-goal advantage to Liverpool next week following a 3-1 victory at the Estadio Alfredo Di Stefano.

A brace from Vinicius Junior and one from Asensio gave Madrid the needed points, Liverpool pulled one back through Mohamed Salah in the early minutes of the second half.

Vinicius Junior break the deadlock in the 27-minute when a superb ball from Kroos sent the Brazilian in on goal. He got away from both Alexander-Arnold and Phillips and chested the ball down expertly before sending a well-directed shot past his countryman Alisson.

Asensio doubled the advantage in the 36-minute after another raking ball from Kroos and under little pressure Alexander-Arnold attempted to clear with a diving header but it went straight to the Spaniard, who nipped in ahead of Alisson, dinked the ball over the keeper and then tapped the ball into the open goal.

The Reds were much improved after the break and quickly got a goal back after Diogo Jota's shot deflected straight to Salah, who controlled and then shot in off the underside of the crossbar.

Vinícius Júnior added his second shortly afterwards and the home side had to defend really well late on but they did it well lead the aggregate with a 3-1 scoreline.
