Donny van de Beek could request for a move away from Manchester United, Dimitar Berbatov has told.

According to the former Manchester United forward, the Dutch player’s lack of game time is worrying and it could quench his confidence level if the Red Devils don’t feature him.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer acquired the Ajax star for £40million last summer and was tipped as the perfect midfielder to replace Paul Pogba who failed to justify his game time in the Premier League.

The 23-year old has so far started twice out of 10 appearances in the English League and scored once that was on his debut against Crystal Palace when United lost by 3-1.

Berbatov in an interview with Betfair told that he won’t be surprised if the player starts to “look for the exit”.

“I don't know what is going on with Donny Van de Beek,” he told Betfair cited on talkSPORTS. “I said before he signed that I like him as a player, he was great for Ajax and his national team, but now he can't get a game at United. I don't watch the training sessions and the little time he does get on the pitch isn't enough to judge him.

Pogba is not a great player - Carragher hit at the Frenchman for failure to influence games

“He needs a run of games in a row to give him confidence. I can see that his confidence isn't high at the moment, and that's normal because when you don't play you start punishing yourself and ask questions of yourself. I wouldn't be surprised if he is starting to look for the exit and nobody will blame him. Something isn't working.”

Dutch legend, Maro van Basten in October last year criticised Manchester United for failing to utilize the potential of the young midfielder and addressed that the former Ajax move to Old Trafford was questionable.

“It is very bad for such a boy to only play six or seven times in a year,” Van Basten told Ziggo Sport

“That's terrible for your rhythm! You can earn a lot more, but you also have to see where you can play.

“Is it about a five-year contract that he can sign? No, that's b*******. Then you shouldn't go to Manchester United but wait with it or for another club. You have to want to play football every week, and such a club is then bad for your career.”
