A joint team of Police, Environmental Health Officers, and personnel of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) has retrieved a decomposing body of an unidentified man found dead in the lower stream of the Volta Lake between Atimpoku, and Kpong near the Adomi bridge in the Asuogyaman District of the Eastern Region.

The disintegrating body of the unknown deceased was retrieved floating on the Volta river at around 10:40 am yesterday, March 8, 2021.

 According to the Akuse District Police Commander, Superintendent Winfred Asare Nyarko, the body of the dead was rotten beyond recognition, therefore, it could not be sent to the morgue for autopsy hence A death certificate was subsequently secured from the Medical Superintendent of the VRA hospital, Dr. Ebenezer Nartey for instant burial.

It is believed that the drowned unidentified deceased would be between 35 and 40 years and was wearing a brown long sleeves T-shirt with black trousers but investigations are yet to find the cause of his death.

The Volta River is said to have many recreational centers along its banks and beaches as well as hotels and many guesthouses along its banks and according to the residents, dead bodies are sporadically found floating on the River.
