UN warns over tonnes of missing uranium in Libya

A site in Libya that is not under government authority has lost about 2.5 tonnes of uranium, according to the UN's nuclear watchdog, and it is currently searching for it.

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) reported that when its inspectors visited the undisclosed location on Tuesday, they discovered that 10 drums containing uranium ore had vanished.

Currently, they are attempting to determine what transpired and how the nuclear material was taken.

The uranium could present a radiological danger, which inspectors worry might compromise nuclear security.

They had planned to go there last year, but fighting between various Libyan militias forced them to cancel their journey.
