UN Donates 14 Armored Vehicles To GAF To Intensify Efforts To Revolt Against 'Bad Tourists And Galamsey
This commitment was reaffirmed by the Defence Minister Defence Edward Kofi Omane Boamah when he was speaking at a handing ceremony of 14 armored vehicles to Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) by government of the United States of America (USA).

Government of Ghana has indicated its commitment to continue devise pragmatic security measures to revolt against 'bad tourists and illegal mining activities in the country.
This commitment was reaffirmed by the Defence Minister Defence Edward Kofi Omane Boamah when he was speaking at a handing ceremony of 14 armored vehicles to Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) by government of the United States of America (USA).
The vehicles which were donated through US Embassy to GAF at the event held in Accra on Thursday May 8, 2025 was aimed at enhancing the operational activities of the GAF.
This initiative strengthens the partnership between the government of the United States of America (USA) and government of Ghana in supporting regional stability and peacekeeping efforts.
Receiving the vehicles on behalf of President of Ghana, His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, the Defence Edward Kofi Omane Boamah thanked the government of the USA for the donation.
According to the sector Minister, he believes that the initiative is part the UN's continuous efforts
to strengthen the long standing relationship with government of Ghana.
He indicated the government's commitment to continue to partner the government of USA to enhance security in Ghana.
He stated that "the occasion held to donate the vehicles to GAF is not just a symbol of enduring partnership between the two countries and that it is a tangible expression of our share commitmen, stability and security which across the west Africa sub-region."
"This generous donation would go along way to strengthen operational readiness of the Ghana Armed Forces. This capable Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected Vehicles would enhance protection and effectiveness to counter terrorism and internal security efforts including the fight against illegal mining activities," the Minister said.
According to him, the vehicles are not only assets for national defence but they are instruments for regional peacekeeping and global solidarity.
He indicated that over the years the USA has remained a dependable partner in capacity building journey of the Ghana Armed Forces.
In this regard, he expressed deeply appreciation to the government of the USA for support to the GAF.
"I wish to assure you that the Ghana Armed Forces would deploy these vehicles responsible, effectively in line of our mandate to safeguard the territorial integrity of Ghana which is a key responsibility of the Ministry of Defence (MOD) and part of the broader foreign policy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration," the Defence Minister stressed.
