The Ashanti Regional Police Command on Wednesday, June 10, 2020, briefed the press on a critical robbery case that occurred on Tuesday, June 9, 2020, at Santasi, Kumasi.

According to the Deputy Ashanti Regional Police Commander, DCOP David Agyemang Adjem, the Command acted on intelligence and engaged in a confrontation with robbers “suspected to be Fulani arm robbers who masterminded the Manso Dadease robbery where three persons including the driver of the Amansie South DCE was killed.”

 

 

“Last night, yesterday, 9 June 2020, the Ashanti Regional Police Command acting on intelligence that a group of young men who are armed robbers and are noted for snatching vehicles and robbing especially gold dealers and their mining sites.

“We had information that they were preparing to embark on a robbing expedition, so we sent a team of officers from the Regional headquarters to foil the operation and to arrest the suspects. Whiles the police were on their way, they met a black BMW salon car with registration number GH7615-12 with about six persons on board.

“Upon seeing the police team, they opened fire. The police returned fire and the suspect tried to escape. This resulted in the death of two of the persons on board in the BMW salon car. A police officer was also injured and was rushed to hospital for treatment but is in stable condition,” he narrated.

 

 

The Deputy Ashanti Regional Police Commander continued that the robbers who are believed to have sustained gunshot wounds abandoned their vehicles and managed to escape as an SMG rifle loaded with seven rounds of ammunition and one 6R SP 2020 pistol loaded with 11 rounds of ammunition was found in their abandoned car.

“The deceased and the other who managed to escape are suspected to be Fulani arm robbers who masterminded the Manso Dadease robbery where three persons including the driver of the Amansie South DCE was killed,” he added.

“The vehicle together with the weapons have all been retained at this headquarters to exhibit in the case. The bodies have also been deposited at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital mortuary awaiting identification and autopsy.”

 

 

He urged the media to use their platforms to inform “all medical facilities and also herbal health centers to be on the lookout and report any person or person who visits their facilities with wounds suspected to be gunshots for their immediate arrest. “

He cautioned that “these suspects may be armed and are dangerous and so people must be mindful.”

 

 

The Ashanti Regional Police Command is, therefore, encouraging the public to public “to volunteer information that will lead to the arrest of the other suspects as the command assures the public of our results to combat all crimes in the Ashanti Region.”
