Two cousins from Oduman Asuaba Mohammed Rabiu Mumuni and Mustapha Musah were lucky to escape brutalities after the two attended a gay party on the 31st December 2021 at Media Kotoku.

According to them, they went to a party without knowing that the person behind the party was a gay activist and a friend spotted them at the party.

"We went to the party on the 31st night to say bye-bye to the year 2021. We were beaten and assaulted by our families for practicing gay which is against the laws of Ghana to extend of been arrested".

He added that they decided to run for their lives because they were threatened by friends and relatives for tarnishing their reputation.

"Mohammed Rabiu and Mustapha Musah were spotted by a friend at the party so they were questioned for involving themselves in illegalities", a resident added

In Ghana the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29) criminalizes unnatural carnal knowledge associated with the activities of homosexuals.

Meanwhile, on Tuesday, 26th October 2021, Ghana’s parliament started studying the controversial draft legislation aimed at heavily penalizing LGBT+ people, which is already prohibited in the country.

If passed, the new bill would allow for up to 10 years in prison for LGBTQI people, penalize those defending them as well as penalize the publication of information that could be considered as encouraging homosexuality.

Consequently when homosexuals get attacked in Ghana, seeking solace or refuge in the law is simply out of the question.
