Two trucks have been involved in a fatal accident on June 30, 2021, around 1:00 pm at Suhum, a business community and the Municipal capital in the Eastern Region of Ghana.

An eyewitness account to William Ofori, Soiree News Eastern regional correspondent on phone that a trailer with registration number 20-HH-8934-BF believed to be from Burkina Faso was crossed by a Nissan Urvan minibus, fully packed with passengers at Suhum Interchange.

However, both outgoing trucks were from Accra, heading towards Kumasi.

The Burkinabe long trailer with registration number 20-HH-8934-BF fully loaded with iron rods incidentally crashed into the driver side of another outgoing truck, a Kia Rhino truck and both vehicles veered off the road. In the process, the Rhino then crushed into the Suhum traffic light whilst the Burkina Faso trailer landed safely.

The Rhino mate had a fractured arm, while his driver sustained severe injuries at the head and bruises at his arms, according to Agya Dan, the eye witness.

Ironically, the long trailer in a quest to save the passengers in the Nissan Urvan, hit the Kia Rhino truck and both vehicles veered off the road leading to a somersault by the Rhino truck.

According to Agya Dan, an eyewitness, the residents of Suhum, and the police personnel immediately rushed to the scenes and conveyed the injured persons to the Suhum government hospital and are currently receiving treatment.

Meanwhile, the driver and the mate of the other trailer were not hurt in any way.

He opined that the Police were invited to the scenes to immediately toll the Kia Rhino truck to safety to reduced traffic congestion at the Suhum overpass.

The Police are yet to officially come out with a report on the cause of the accident.
