The two Fulanis who were allegedly kidnapped by unknown persons in the bushes of Daboya of the Savannah Region were rescued by a team of Police.

The victims were travelling on a motorbike from Daboya to Abotape in the North Gonja District of the Savannah Region were intercepted by these unknown persons and taken to an unknown location in the bush in demand of money from the victim's families.

The rescued victims are Alhaji Nyandiya and Marchu, both cattle owners and who lives in Abotape.

According to the police, the kidnappers demanded an initial amount of Ghc170,000 from the victim's families and through negotiations, they reached a reduction to Ghc130,000.

The kidnappers threaten not to release the victims until the money is paid.

The matter was reported to the police as soon as the kidnapping incident happened on Friday, June 11, 2021.

The Savannah Regional Police Public Relation Officer, Supt. Adjekum Owusu, who confirmed the incident to the media on Monday, June 14, 2021, indicated that the rescue mission was a collaboration between the police in the region and the National Intelligence Unit at the police headquarters.

According to him, the victims are currently at their homes and assisting police in investigations.

He however disclosed that the suspects flee the scene to a nearby bush when they realized the police were around.

“ The suspects ran away but the most important thing is that we have rescued the victims and for them not to be hurt.”

He appealed to residents around the Daboya and its communities to volunteer information to the police to assist them to arrest the perpetrators.

It is reported that the alleged kidnappers used the phone of Alhaji Nyandiya to call the families of the two and demanded an amount of Gh 170,000 of the amount was reduced to Gh 130,000 when the families pleaded with the alleged kidnappers.

The victim's families were able to gather the said amount and were ready to make the payment on Monday, June 14, 2021, and likely the police rescued the victims.

The Savannah Regional Police Command are on the hunt for the alleged kidnappers and the victims are assisting in the investigation to arrest the perpetrators.

The Northern part of Ghana has gained notoriety in kidnap cases in recent times.

Recently the Northern Regional Police Command arrested three suspected kidnappers believed to be part of a syndicate operating in the Northern region also suspected to be involved in alleged armed robbery attacks on the Highway arrived in Tamale to plan for their operations.

The suspects have been arraigned before the Tamale Magistrate court.
