Youth unemployment has been on the ascendency, a matter that poses a national security threat to the development of Ghana. To mitigate the challenge, concerned stakeholders have been combing through measures to safeguard the country from threats.

In that regard, the General Secretary of the Cooperative Council, Mr. Albert Boakye is calling on the government to turn its attention to the Cooperative Society to fashion out policies to create employment avenues for the teeming youth.

Speaking in an interview with Soireenews.com, the General Secretary for the Ghana Cooperative Society  Council, Mr. Albert Boakye made a frantic appeal to the government to as a matter of urgency collaborate with his outfit to create employment avenues for the teeming youth across the country.

He said the footprint of his outfit in terms of job creation is evident in the massive infrastructural development across the country which he said is evidence of his outfit's dominance.

He however bemoaned the lack of understanding of the Cooperative concept amongst the citizenry. Explaining the concept, he said the cooperative concept is the only system that does not declare profit but rather surplus while the profit is injected back into the business.

He said the recent injection of funds by the government in youth development-related initiatives, could have been channeled into the cooperative concept which could have created much more job opportunities in the economy.

According to him, the cooperative concept remained the best tool to be used by the government for the entrepreneurial training of the youth. He said his outfit has a bunchstudstudentooperatives that the government can take advantage of to spur employment. With more than 4.3 members he noted that his outfit is seeking to embark on massive awareness creation to sensitize the citizenry on the overall benefits of the cooperative concept.

Mr. Albert Boakye made the disclosure recently at the 100th year celebration of the Cooperative society urging the general public to turn their attention to his outfit for sustained development and job creation.
